Canada on track to improve First Nations water and wastewater infrastructure: INAC

March 16, 2017  By Ground Water Canada

Ottawa – The federal government says it is on track to deliver on its 2016 budget commitment to end long-term drinking water advisories affecting INAC-funded public systems on-reserve within five years.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to make financial investments to help strengthen on-reserve water and wastewater infrastructure.

As part of a long-term strategy, the government is working closely with First Nations to prioritize infrastructure investments and streamline funding processes, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada said in a news release. The goal of the strategy is to create sustainable First-Nations-led approaches, support training and operational capacity in order to address water issues on reserves before they lead to long-term drinking water advisories.
