Ground water recharge may rise under projected climate in Upper Colorado River basin, study suggests

Washington, D.C. – A study published in Geophysical Research Letters suggests future upper Colorado River basin recharge may be greater than the historical average in most decades. This increase, a result of projected increases in precipitation, may offset reductions in recharge caused by increased temperatures, the journal said in a news release.

Lead authors of the article, entitled “Changes in groundwater recharge under projected climate in the Upper Colorado River Basin,” are Fred D. Tillman of the United States Geological Survey, and Subhrendu Gangopadhyay and Tom Pruitt of the Reclamation, Water Resources Planning and Operations Support Group in Denver, Colo.
