Network hosts global e-discussion on ground water regulation

June 16, 2016  By Colleen Cross

The Rural Water Sustainability Network, in collaboration with UNICEF, Skat Foundation and WaterAid, is hosting a three-week e-discussion on international ground water regulation from June 27 to July 17.

It The goal of the discussion is to enable an international exchange on ground water regulation, to allow stakeholders to learn from one another and to provide input on the ongoing process of water regulation in Zambia.

With the enactment of the Water Resources Management Act in 2012 in Zambia, the new Water Resources Management Authority is currently developing regulations (statutory instruments) that cover the licencing of drillers and consultants, permitting and ground water protection, the RWSN said in a news release. Once these are passed into law, for the first time in the country’s history, ground water will be regulated.
