June 6, 2011, United States – GE’s ABMet is a biological water treatment system that uses naturally occurring microbes to reduce the amounts of selenium and other metals entering freshwater supplies.
The patented ABMet process runs wastewater through a biologically active filter, seeded with naturally occurring microbes that target potentially toxic metals that can escape from coal mines and power plants. The microbes capture the metals so they can be converted into an easy-to-treat form.
