Make plans to attend CanWell 2010 in Winnipeg

The Canadian Ground Water Association (CGWA) suffered a significant loss
with the recent passing of our president, Mr. Francis Gale, of
Newfoundland and Labrador. Francis was well known in the ground water
community and contributed a great deal to the CGWA over the years. He
was serving his first term as president at the time of his passing.

With the untimely passing of Francis, the CGWA bylaws require the first vice-president to assume the president’s position. I have agreed to fill the position for the remainder of the term, and will attempt to fill the rather large shoes left by Francis.

On behalf of the Canadian Ground Water Association executive and directors, I am pleased to invite everyone to attend CanWell 2010, our association’s national convention and trade show. Our convention is being held from May 26 to 29, at the Winnipeg Convention Centre in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. For the first time ever, our convention is being held jointly by the Manitoba Water Well Association (MWWA), and the Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance (MGEA). The partnership with the MGEA has brought a new dynamic to our CanWell, and we hope that this will carry on into the future.

The Manitoba Water Well Association and the Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance have partnered to host a convention that will offer something for everyone in the ground water and geothermal industries.

So far, the response to the show has been tremendous. We have a substantial number of trade show booths booked, and we recently had to expand our indoor drill rig display to accommodate additional equipment. We will be holding 15 technical sessions on a wide variety of new and up and coming advances in the ground water and geothermal industries. It will be challenging to fit all of the presentations in during this convention.

At the 2008 CanWell, the outdoor drilling demonstration set a standard for the number of interesting displays and activities. During this CanWell, we have decided to take the demonstration to a higher level. It will be held in downtown Winnipeg, and will feature 14 demonstrations, including the hydro-pulse redevelopment of a 75-year-old industrial water well currently on the site.

This convention promises to provide information and education on the latest technological advances in the ground water and geothermal industries. Although the 2008 convention in Edmonton will be a tough act to follow, the Manitoba Committee has done a considerable amount of work to make sure that CanWell 2010 is the show not to be missed.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the hard-working members of the MWWA and MGEA who have donated so much of their time and effort to hosting this convention.
