September 24, 2018  By Ed Cosman

The Ontario Ground Water Association held their annual golf tournament and fundraiser on Sept. 21 at the Conestoga Golf and Conference Centre in Conestogo, Ont.

Seventy-five golfers registered for the event. Twenty-one of those were Aardvark Drilling employees as the company ran a training session for them ahead of the golf event. Registration was handled by OGWA executive director Craig Stainton starting at 11 a.m. followed by a lunch consisting of hotdogs, sausages, chips and a drink at noon.

At 1 p.m. the group teed of in hot, humid weather with 45 km/h winds. Everything was going well until the skies opened abruptly and rain and lightning descended on the players with about three holes left to play. Everyone scrambled to get back to the clubhouse, with most people getting absolutely soaked. The storm lasted about 45 minutes but by then everyone had put their clubs away and was discussing the round over some adult beverages in the clubhouse.

Dinner followed at 6 p.m. with a buffet consisting of roast beef, chicken, salads and dessert. After dinner various donated prized were awarded based on sales of lucky draw tickets. Kyle Smith of Aardvark Drilling was especially lucky as his ticket numbers were called on five separate occasions! The money raised from draw ticket sales will help fund the scholarship programs at Fleming College. The final amount raised was not available as of publishing.

Since the golf round was not completed, golf prizes were not awarded to the top teams. Instead all the golf prizes were distributed on a random draw basis. The evening concluded with Stainton reminding everyone to book next year’s golf outing in their calendars as it will be held at the same course around the same time.

Sponsors of the event were the  Baroid, Canpipe, Epiroc, Franklin Electric, Heron Instruments, OGWA, Own Your Safety, Paracel Laboratories, Pentair, Pinchin and Pompco.
