Backflow preventers mandated for Owen Sound’s drinking water system

Owen Sound, Ont. – The city’s drinking water system has been given added protection from potential contamination by means of a backflow protection program. A new bylaw mandates backflow preventers for industrial, commercial and institutional water services. Upwards of 40 annual watermain breaks can occur in the city, triggering the risk of a depressurized water system in which contaminants from a property could return to the system.
