More than 1,200 wells have dried up

Fairmead, Calif. – Heavy pumping is depleting underground aquifers in the American West as drought levels continue to deepen. Rural communities are losing access to groundwater and more than 1,200 wells in California have dried up this year – an almost 50 per cent increase over the same period in 2021. The situation is at its gravest in the San Joaquin Valley which is a prime area in the state for exporting fruit, vegetables and nuts. The National Post report | READ MORE
