Danish study finds link between lithium levels in tap water and autism in children
Study believed to be the first that presents the possible link

High levels of lithium in tap water may present a higher risk among pregnant women for their child to be diagnosed with autism, a Danish research report suggests. Lithium naturally occurs in water, but little research has been done regarding its effect on brain growth and development. The current study may be the first that identifies naturally occurring lithium in tap water to be linked as a possible environmental threat for the development of autism.
