Four firms to sponsor Darcy lecture series in ground water science

Westerville, OH – Four firms will help underwrite the Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecture Series in Groundwater Science to foster interest and excellence in ground water science and technology.

Since its start in 1986, the series has reached more than 85,000 ground water students, faculty members, and professionals, the National Ground Water Association said in a news release. Named in honour of Henry Darcy of France for his 1856 investigations that established the physical basis upon which ground water hydrogeology has been studied, the series is operated through the National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation (NGWREF).

Four companies will underwrite the Darcy Lecture Series:

  • Leggette, Brashears & Graham Inc. is providing $5,000 a year for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Darcy Lectures. John R. Jansen, PhD, PG, PGP, a senior associate at the firm, said, “Leggette, Brashears & Graham is proud to be among the first to support the Darcy Lecture Series. We believe it is a global platform to share new ideas and scientific advancements with the groundwater industry and recognize the thought leaders who have dedicated their talents and energy to their field.”
  • Woodard & Curran is providing $5,000 a year for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Darcy Lectures. Jason R. House, CG, PG, senior principal hydrogeologist, said, “As a firm that prides itself in solving complex water and environmental issues, Woodard & Curran is thrilled to support the Darcy Lecture Series in its exploration of how hydrogeology, technology, and knowledge transfer intersect.”
  • CDM Smith is providing $5,000 for the 2016 Darcy Lecture. Robert P. Schreiber, PE, BCEE, D.WRE, vice president of CDM Smith, said, “Since its inception, CDM Smith has emphasized the value of transforming R&D results into techniques that solve complex groundwater challenges. We are supporting the Darcy Lecture because it stands as the premier event in the groundwater industry in this regard, bringing together researchers and practitioners, and especially students and young professionals as they begin to craft their professional future.”
  • Montgomery & Associates will provide $5,000 for the 2016 Darcy Lecture. Timothy P. Leo, PG, hydrogeologist/principal, said, “Montgomery & Associates is committed to innovation in the field of applied groundwater science. We are pleased to be involved in promoting new approaches to data acquisition and modeling that can reduce costs and improve decision-making by water resource managers.”

“NGWREF would like to thank each of these companies for their support of the Darcy Lecture Series,” said foundation president W.
