A lawsuit has been filed against 3M for having allegedly contaminated Stuart, Fla.,’s drinking water supply through per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

The City of Stuart discovered high levels of PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” in its drinking water supply in 2016. Over the years, the city has spent millions of dollars to rid its water supply of the chemical, but has been unable to fully achieve its goal.

The 3M company is the manufacturer of firefighting foam which is known to contain PFAS.

Company officials say 3M will continue its PFAS remediation and is ready to defend itself in court or negotiate resolutions.
