Fourth-generation U.S. water well contractor passes away

Jacksonville, FL – Donal “Don” Merritt Partridge Sr., a fourth-generation water well contractor with Partridge Well Drilling Co. Inc. in Jacksonville, Fla., passed away on Nov. 13.
Partridge was 86, the National Ground Water Association said in a news release.
He was president of the company for 44 years, from 1948 until he retired in 1992. The company began in 1892. After retirement, he came in every Tuesday morning to ensure the legacy of Partridge Well Drilling was being carried out, the NGWA said. He died doing what he loves best, working on his backhoe.
Partridge was the grandfather of Merritt Partridge, CVCLD, vice-president of Partridge Well Drilling who serves on the NGWA board of directors.
