Grand River contamination study earns McMaster University professor water award

A study of the water quality at Six Nations of the Grand River has earned a McMaster University professor the 2022 International Water Prize from the University of Oklahoma. Dawn Martin-Hill, who is Mohawk and Wolf Clan, found the Grand River to be full of contaminants, saying she was shocked with the severity of the problem. Literature noted area wells were contaminated with phosphorus, E. coli and agricultural runoff, but her research also discovered high levels of mercury, arsenic, chromium and aluminum.
