June 13, 2012, Kawartha, Ont. – Kawartha Conservation has completed the installation of two ground water monitoring wells in Galway-Cavendish & Harvey, as part of the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network (PGMN), which includes more than 480 wells across southern Ontario. Water quality samples were taken for the first time last week.
One well is located in the headwaters of Nogies Creek, just north of Crystal Lake, and the other near the municipal administrative office. They were installed at these locations to provide information on the Precambrian and limestone bedrock aquifers in the area, including their current state and to help identify emerging water level and quality trends.
The information gathered will support municipal planning, water resource management, water taking decisions, drought assessment, and response in the event of a drought.
