April 14, 2014, Toronto – Ontario Energy Group, a licensed home energy appliance contractor, has helped Plan Canada raise over $4,000 toward the goal of providing clean water and sanitation facilities for
families, and giving community members the skills needed to protect
their water supply and ensure it will be there for future generations.
The group has raised funds through its Gifts of Hope program, which
provides ethical gifts abroad to further sustainability in developing
nations.
The contribution aims to improve sustainable water and sanitation
efforts in these communities, which have limited access to clean water
and are at risk for waterborne diseases from contaminated water or
insufficient sewage systems. The initiative supports the well-being of
children in these communities by reducing the workload of transporting
water to remote regions, allowing children to benefit from more time to
pursue an education.
Outside of Canada, there are still billions of world citizens without
access to the clean, safe water that is critical to the growth and
sustainability of any society. According to UNESCO's study on world
resources, 783 million people worldwide lack clean water for drinking,
cleaning, and bathing; and 2.5 billion lack access to basic water
sanitation.
