Horse Lake First Nation, Treaty 8 Territory, Alta. – Horse Lake First Nation, northwest of Grande Prairie, Alta., has a new water treatment plant in operation, thanks to funding of $9.5 million from the federal government.
The new facility features dual media filtration, reverse-osmosis membranes, and ultraviolet light radiation. It takes in water from three ground water wells.
The original water system in Horse Lake was constructed in the 1980s and required a significant overhaul. Indigenous Services Canada invested $9.5 million to support construction of the new plant.

The plant will meet all the Canadian drinking water quality guideline requirements, Indigenous Services Canada said in a news release.
