IDA names interim dean of desalination academy

May 30, 2012, Mass. – The International Desalination Association (IDA)
named Leon Awerbuch the interim dean of the IDA Desalination Academy,
which will offer its first courses in conjunction with the 2012
Singapore International Water Week (SIWW).

May 30, 2012, Mass. – The International Desalination Association (IDA) named Leon Awerbuch the interim dean of the IDA Desalination Academy, which will offer its first courses in conjunction with the 2012 Singapore International Water Week (SIWW).

Awerbuch is president of Leading Edge Technologies, Ltd. (LET) and past-president and currently a director of IDA, and also co-chairs IDA’s technical programs committee. Previously, he was vice-president and business development manager with International Bechtel Co. Ltd. Awerbuch holds 23 patents and disclosures and has published more than 80 technical papers. His education covered chemical engineering and chemistry with a masters degree and chemical engineering PhD program from Brooklyn Polytechnic, and studies in mathematics at Warsaw University. He is a registered professional engineer in California and Wisconsin, USA.

The academy’s inaugural courses will be presented on July 4 and 5 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, to be followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of the SingSpring Desalination Plant on July 6. Course topics will range from in-depth examination of membrane and thermal technologies, to costing strategies and plant operations. The faculty members of the academy are leading experts in their fields, distinguished by their combination of theoretical and practical knowledge and experience.
