Iqaluit residents want public inquiry into government’s handling of water crisis

Iqaluit, Nunavut – As the city continues to deal with its ongoing water crisis, some residents are calling for a public inquiry about how government officials have dealt with the issue. Although a third-party review of the territorial government’s handling of the crisis is being initiated, some Iqaluit residents figure it’s not enough, claiming it lacks the transparency of a public inquiry. Iqaluit endured a two-month-long water emergency in late 2021, but reports of a fuel smell in the city’s treated water in mid-January has led to a boil-water advisory.
