Lake Okanagan salt levels up notably since 1973, but still well within thresholds

Kelowna, B.C. – The water at Okanagan Lake is getting saltier, but there’s no cause for concern just yet. The communications director with the Okanagan Basin Water Board says aquatic life and drinking water are in no current peril, even though salt levels have climbed notably over the past 50 years. The threshold for drinking water is 250 milligrams/litre, but lake levels were 5.73 mg/L as of last fall. In 1973, however, the numbers were 1.5 mg/L.
