Manitoba First Nations communities file lawsuit over pollution of Red River, Lake Winnipeg

Suit claims Winnipeg, provincial and federal governments have contravened Treaty rights

Winnipeg – One billion dollars in damages is being sought by two Manitoba First Nations who claim the Red River and Lake Winnipeg continue to be polluted and degraded. The suit has been filed against the city, the provincial and federal governments, alleging the parties have contravened Treaty rights by allowing sewage and other contaminants to pollute the Red River which flows into Lake Winnipeg.
