McNally newest member of Weeks Marine family

September 25, 2011  By Administrator

September 25, 2011, Hamilton, ON – Weeks Marine, Inc. has purchased 100% of the family owned McNally International, a Canadian tunnel and marine contractor, in an agreement that closed on July 8.

McNally will continue to operate in Canada and the United States out of their Hamilton, Ontario head office.
Weeks Marine, Inc. is a New Jersey-based, family owned marine construction and dredging operation with six divisions across North America and 2010 revenues of $500 million. Founded in 1919, Weeks was recently ranked 86th on the Engineering News Record 2011 top 400 contractors list.

"With this purchase, Weeks has secured an entrance into North America’s tunneling industry and a significant presence in Canada," says Rich Weeks, president and CEO. "Bringing McNally into the Weeks family enhances our ability to compete with the increasingly multi-national players in our industry."

Laura McNally and Ray Hutton have been appointed Managing Directors of McNally. Both are grandchildren of Joe McNally who in 1949 established the company on which McNally International was founded.

"Our team is excited about the opportunities Weeks brings as we continue to grow the McNally brand and expand our marine operations," says Laura McNally. "For our employees across Canada and the US, it is business as usual: delivering excellence on all of our projects and bidding new work for both our tunnel and marine operations."

"McNally’s reputation for quality, their experience with challenging and innovative tunneling and marine projects, and their culture as a family owned business make them a perfect fit with Weeks Marine," says Weeks. "McNally has a strong management team and loyal employees—some of whom are third-generation McNally workers—this, along with their aggressive growth strategy, made them a very attractive organization."

While there are some changes in senior management structure, McNally’s employees will not be impacted by the change of control. Patrick McNally and John Hutton, who built the company into an international operation and ensured the company’s future success by joining Weeks Marine, have stepped down from day to day operations and will serve on the McNally Board of Directors and in an advisory role to the management team.

McNally International is a privately owned Canadian heavy construction company that specializes in tunnel and marine construction. McNally has completed numerous high-profile projects since the company was established in 1949, including the Sheppard Subway in Toronto, Ontario; the Bruce Nuclear Intake, Ontario; and more recently the extension of the South Light Rail Transit System in Edmonton, Alberta; the Raglan Mine Wharf in Deception Bay, Quebec; and Remediation of the Sydney Tar Ponds, Sydney, Nova Scotia. McNally is the first North American tunnel and marine contractor to achieve ISO registration for Quality Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems and OHSAS certification for Health & Safety Management Systems.
