Medicine Hat will continue its water bottle filling stations again this summer
Pilot project proved successful, and residents want summer program to continue
May 26, 2023 By Ground Water Canada
Medicine Hat, Alta. – The city is permanently implementing a program that provides the public with accessible safe drinking water through seasonal water bottle fill stations.
Equipment is connected to existing fire hydrants in Medicine Hat, but the stations will be unavailable until testing determines the water is safe for consumption. Provincial lab results are expected next week from a microbiological water analysis.
The stations will be located in 10 different areas of the city. The program is an extension of a pilot project that was launched in 2022, and 90 per cent of public respondents from a recent poll indicated they wanted the program to continue each summer.
Last year, the equivalent of 118,000 one-litre bottles of water were dispensed to the public.
The city recommends the public run the water at the stations for a short while to ensure it reaches a satisfactory drinking temperature.
