Mining company awarded almost $2M in damages after containment design flaw found
Tank containing contaminated groundwater leaked

Trail, B.C. – The British Columbia Supreme Court has awarded $1.98 million to a Vancouver-based mining company after it was determined the designer of a water treatment tank case it hired was negligent. Testing determined the tank leaked, rendering it unsuitable for containing contaminated groundwater. Mining company Teck began its construction of a groundwater treatment plant in 2015, designed to remove trace amounts of ammonia and metals from groundwater prior to being released into the environment.
