Mono, Ont. to take a closer look at its drinking water system’s arsenic levels
Grant to cover most of system's improvements
September 2, 2022 By Ground Water Canada
Mono, Ont. – A closer look will be given to the arsenic levels in the town’s drinking water supply. Council recently heard that Mono exceeds current standards for the integrity of its water, but improvements to the Island Lake Drinking Water System must first be made if the town is to comply with changes made to the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards which reduces the allowable amount of arsenic in drinking water. Although a federal grant would cover most of the cost of the necessary improvements, it leaves the municipality on the hook for as much as $1.3 million – an amount that has council concerned.
