N.W.T. environment minister learned of Suncor oilsands spill from a newspaper reporter
Lack of communication marks second time in weeks following environmental incidents

Yellowknife, N.W.T. – Another breakdown in communications over an oilsands spill in Canada’s north has riled the North West Territories’ minister of the environment. He said he didn’t become aware of the recent Suncor spill of almost six million litres of water into the Athabasca River until he was informed by a newspaper reporter. It marks the second time in only weeks that elected officials weren’t notified on a timely basis of a spill impacting northern waters.
