NAACP cites discrimination in long running debate over Mississippi capital’s ongoing water woes
State regulator says claims are unfounded

Jackson, Miss. – Politics has entered the discussion about the city’s years-long water woes that came to a head in August when most of Jackson lost running water for several days, leaving residents waiting in line for enough water for drinking, cooking and bathing. The NAACP has argued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency discriminated against the city in its distribution of funds for wastewater treatment. A state environmental regulator, however, says the NAACP has failed to allege any facts that support its argument. Jackson, the capital of Mississippi, is predominantly Black.
