Only about a quarter of B.C. groundwater users have applied for licences as deadline looms

Vernon, B.C. – As the deadline nears for groundwater licence applications, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development reports only a quarter of estimated users had applied by the end of November. About 20,000 wells require licensing. Penalties and fees may face those using groundwater for irrigation or commercial purposes who have yet to meet the March 1 deadline.
