Toronto – Ontario’s new, interactive Source Water Protection Map is now available on the province’s website. The interactive map provides the first provincial view of the more than 970 wellhead protection areas and 150 intake protection zones within the source protection areas in Ontario.

The map displays over 20 layers of data for Ontario, Ontario.ca says.

Business developers can find out if a property has land-use restrictions because ground or surface water is nearby and access information needed to complete an application for a provincial environmental compliance approval (ECA).

Farm Owners can find out if a property site has restrictions affecting animal penning, manure storage or fertilizer use.

Municipalities can find vulnerable areas to help when issuing building permits, developing official plans, plotting utility or transportation corridors, or creating risk-management plans.

Prospective homeowners can find out if a property has specific requirements, for example, if a fuel tank must be above ground.
