Paper explores Canada-U.S. ground water data network interoperability

March 18, 2016  By Ground Water Canada

Washington, DC – A Canada-U.S. study looks at ways to provide a united view between the two countries’ ground water data networks: the Canadian Groundwater Information Network and the U.S. National Ground-Water Monitoring Network.

Groundwater data network interoperability, published in the Journal of Hydroinformatics by staff of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Canada, suggests that although relevant information is often distributed among various databases maintained by different agencies about water wells, sensors and aquifers, it is rarely available from one database or agency.

Despite this, the paper lauds the databases as together achieving the first edition of an interoperable United States–Canada ground water data network.
