Presence of potentially harmful blue-green algae found in Durham Region lake

Health officials warn local residents not to drink from source

Durham Region, Ont. – Water samples taken from Lake Scugog confirm the presence of blue-green algae which can seriously impact human and pet health. Water from the lake is not to be used for drinking purposes, health officials advise. The algae naturally occurs in ponds, rivers, lakes and streams, but some can produce toxins.
