Quebec First Nation community without water for fifth straight day, prompting local crisis
Situation forces evacuation of elders

Manawan, Que. – The First Nation community north of Montreal is into its fifth day without available drinking water. The water outage began last Sunday and could prove catastrophic for its 2,500 residents if not resolved quickly, the community’s chief said. The outage, due to low water levels, has resulted in school cancellations, the inability to bathe and the evacuation of elders necessary to keep a lid on COVID-19 outbreaks.
