Reason behind Iqaluit’s recontaminated water supply remains a mystery

Iqaluit, Nunavut – The reason behind the city’s recontaminated water supply remains a mystery, chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson says. In spite of the green light given to residents in December to safely drink their water after a two-month-long do-not-consume advisory, the presence of fuel in the supply has returned, leaving officials scratching their heads. Patterson suspects the contamination could be the result of fuel remaining inside the water treatment plant, an altogether new source of contamination, or perhaps the void surrounding the water treatment plant’s exterior becoming recontaminated.
