Researchers say pattern of arid conditions in U.S. West likely to continue

Despite record amounts of precipitation in 2022-23 in much of the U.S. West, the pattern indicates that part of the country will continue to be arid and amplified by climate change, a Princeton University researcher says. Research from Colorado State University suggests almost half of the 204 freshwater basins studied in the United States may not be able to meet their monthly demand for water by 2071.
