Rio Grande dispute between Texas and New Mexico could soon be settled

Albuquerque, N.M. – A years-long dispute between the states of Texas and New Mexico over the management of the Rio Grande may be coming to end. Texas has long argued that groundwater pumping in New Mexico has negatively impacted the flow of water crossing the border. New Mexico claims its share of the river has been shorted. Negotiations to settle the dispute are being arranged to avoid an ongoing trial. Climate change has impacted the river’s water levels and has created an agricultural crisis.
