West Chester, PA – The Schramm engineering group is upgrading its existing T450 rigs to use a CAT C15 ACERT, Tier 4 compliant engine.

As of Jan.1, 2018, these rigs – the truck-mounted T450WS and the crawler track-mounted T450GT – must comply with the U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards for off-highway diesel engines on rigs sold in the U.S. These requirements became mandatory for most manufacturers of off-highway equipment powered by diesel engines on Jan. 1, 2014, and as of 2018 became applicable to smaller manufacturers such as Schramm, the company said.

The new drill rig models are the truck-mounted T455WS – ECO and the crawler track-mounted T455GT – ECO. Modifications are primarily limited to those necessary to use the new Tier 4 engine, Schramm said in a news release.

The Tier 4 compliant engine is the same physical size as the present CAT engine. Additional space on the rig is required for equipment to treat the exhaust of the engine, but the rig is basically the same as the current T450.

The first rig will be built in the late first quarter of 2018 and ready to begin delivery.

Rigs meeting the Tier 4 requirement are more expensive and can only use ultra- low sulphur diesel fuel (ULSD) that is unavailable in many parts of the world. Therefore, Schramm will continue to export T450 rigs that meet applicable local regulations and requirements.

Additional features and benefits of the T455GT – ECO include:

·      Compliance of the CAT C15 ACERT engine with EPA Tier 4 requirements, so that unburned hydrocarbons, soot, and nitrous oxides, and smog are almost completely eliminated
·      A six-cylinder, turbo-charged, four-cycle engine with 580 HP (433 KW) @ 1695 ft. lb. (2297 Nm) with electronic engine protection
·      The latest hands-free pipe handling and breakout automation to provide a safer environment for drill crews
·      Up to 40,000 lbf (177.9 kN) pullback
·      On-board compressor 1,050 cfm @ 350 psi (29.7 m3/min @ 24.1 bar)
·      Fuel savings of up to 12% through air-CONTROL
·      Exploration Package that includes 45-degree sliding angle mast and other features.

Additional features and benefits of the T455WS – ECO include:

·      Compliance of the CAT C15 ACERT engine with EPA Tier 4 requirements, so that unburned hydrocarbons, soot, and nitrous oxides, and smog are almost completely eliminated
·      A six-cylinder, turbo-charged, four-cycle engine with 580 HP (433 KW) @ 1695 ft. lb. (2297 Nm) with electronic engine protection
·      Water well configuration that includes a lazy susan carousels, drill pipe spinner, hydraulic table and manual breakout wench

As a cost-effective measure, Schramm provides ongoing services to maintain, improve, and fix customers’ T450 rigs to extend usability and performance.

A Schramm-certified professional will assess the rig and provide repair, replacement, remanufacture or reconditioning.
