Smithers, B.C. issues water advisory due to elevated levels of manganese
Health agency says water quality unchanged

Smithers, B.C. – Elevated levels of manganese have led to a water advisory issued for the town.
Although the municipality states there is no change to the quality of its drinking water, the manganese levels slightly exceed Health Canada’s maximum acceptable concentration.
Northern Health advises affected residents to use another source of water to prepare infant formula, but adds the water in its current state is still acceptable for bathing, various household uses and consumption.
Town water is regularly tested according to provincial requirements and the Guideline for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.
Efforts are being made to minimize manganese concentrations within the municipal distribution system.
