Iqaluit, Nunavut – A state of emergency has been declared in the city due to low water levels precipitated by a lack of summer rain. Plans are to pump water from nearby lakes to fill the city’s water reservoir prior to freeze-up. About 413,000 cubic metres of water are needed for the reservoir to meet Iqaluit’s water needs during the winter season. More than 500 million litres of water are expected to be pumped.
