Surface-borne contaminants may be pulled deep into groundwater: scientists
Research suggests intensive pumping may be pulling pollutants deeper
October 5, 2022 By Ground Water Canada
Santa Barbara, Calif. – Intensive groundwater pumping is potentially pulling contaminants to deeper depths, scientists from the University of California at Santa Barbara suggest. Their research has found relatively young groundwater reaches deeper depths in heavily pumped aquifer systems, and is potentially pulling surface-borne pollutants along. The leader of the study says it has generally been believed that contaminants found closer to the surface won’t adversely impact deep groundwater. Technology Networks report | READ MORE
