Surrounded by water, Michigan faces a water shortage crisis
State's household wells the most in U.S.

Allendale, Mich. – It is said there is enough groundwater in the Great Lakes region to fill another Lake Huron. However, it isn’t evenly distributed or accessible, and Michigan is facing a water shortage in spite of the vast quantities of nearby surface water. Almost half of the state’s residents get their water from under the ground as Michigan tops the U.S. with the greatest number of household wells.
