Allen to speak at NGWA climate change conference

Portland, OR –Diana M. Allen, professor of hydrogeology in the Department of Earth Sciences at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, is slated to be the keynote speaker of an upcoming conference focusing on ground water and climate.
Allen will deliver a talk entitled “Climate Change and Water: Interconnections within the Hydrologic Cycle” at an NGWA event called Connecting the Dots…Groundwater, Surface Water, and Climate Connections in the Northwest, which takes place Sept. 8 and 9 in Portland, Ore.
Her research program focuses on various aspects of water security, spanning the development of risk assessment methodologies for understanding and forecasting the potential impacts of climate change and other anthropogenic stressors on groundwater resources, the organizers said in a news release. Allen, who holds a PhD from Carleton University, has expertise in the hydrogeology of mountain and coastal regions, and conducts field- and modelling-based research that aims to link hydrological and hydrogeological processes in these dominantly bedrock regions.
She is president of the Canadian National Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, an expert member of UNESCO’s GRAPHIC Programme and coeditor of the Canadian Water Resources Journal. Allen has also served on the Province of British Columbia’s Ground Water Advisory Board.
The conference will also feature a panel discussion: “ The Work of Hydrogeologists: How and Where Do Practitioners Apply It?”
