Ucluelet, B.C.’s water treatment system upgrade doubles in cost since 2020 estimate

Ucluelet, B.C. – The cost of upgrading the community’s water treatment has doubled, council learned at its most recent meeting. Only two years ago, the cost was estimated at $9.6 million, but has since soared to $20.7 million as of December. Council considered three possible options for moving forward, but opted to proceed at the re-adjusted cost, taking advantage of a provincial and federal grant that would have covered three-quarters of the cost of the original estimate.
