‘Unwanted’ water at London’s wastewater plants in 2019 accounted for 44% of that treated

London, Ont. – Although water use in the city is on the decline, the amount of rainwater and groundwater that makes its way to wastewater plants is increasing. This is largely due to deteriorating sewers and weeping tiles as well as other residential connections. Such excess water – categorized as “unwanted” – accounted for 44 per cent of water treated in 2019. The City of London is urging residents to take action to relieve the pressure.
