Water advisory lifted after more than four years at Ontario Indigenous community
COVID delayed water treatment upgrades
October 19, 2022 By Ground Water Canada
Sachigo Lake First Nation, Ont. – A four-year-long drinking water advisory has finally been lifted in the community.
Upgrades to the local water treatment system have been completed, including the expansion of the wastewater lagoon.
Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu says that leaves 31 boil-water advisories that remain in effect across Canada in Indigenous communities.
The Sachigo Lake water treatment plant upgrades took more time than originally expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The advisory had impacted 185 homes and five community buildings.
Twenty-two boil-water advisories remain at 19 Ontario Indigenous communities. Sixty-nine advisories have been lifted over the past seven years.
