Water group warns that seepage from tailings pond could contaminate Athabasca River

Alberta – Leakage from a tailings pond at a tarsands project in northern Alberta could make its way into the Athabasca River, an official from Keepers of the Water says. Seepage from the pond has been an issue since May. Three years ago, a group reporting to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization claimed there was evidence that groundwater was being contaminated from the pond.
