Water treatment plans underway to rid Renfrew of its discoloured, manganese-tainted drinking water
Water still deemed safe to drink
January 9, 2023 By Ground Water Canada
Renfew, Ont. – A system is being devised here to remove manganese from the local water supply.
Manganese has been deemed the culprit for the town’s discoloured drinking water that was experienced in the spring and summer.
It was determined water was leeching manganese from the Bonnechere River riverbed last spring and summer, rendering water that was discoloured yet still safe to drink. The dissolved manganese reacted with the water’s chlorine during the treatment process, leaving it brownish in colour.
