Water well licensing in B.C. reaches deadline, with plenty of confusion still existing
Many thousands could be affected

Victoria, B.C. – Thousands of water users in British Columbia could be out of compliance with new groundwater regulations that went in effect several years ago. The deadline to obtain a licence for non-domestic wells expired at the end of February. If an extension isn’t granted, thousands of water users are apt to be adversely affected. The matter has triggered plenty of confusion in the province. The new regime was developed six years ago with a 2019 deadline to apply, but it was extended to March 1, 2022.
