Waterloo Region’s aquifers are getting saltier with almost a third of wells at or near thresholds

Waterloo, Ont. – Twenty-five of the region’s approximately 80 urban wells are either past or approaching their saltiness thresholds. The region’s manager of hydrogeology and source water says aquifers are getting saltier as salt used on roads and other hard surfaces are getting into groundwater aquifers. Ontario’s objective for sodium in drinking water is no greater than 20 milligrams per litre. The Record report | READ MORE
