August 9, 2011  By Administrator

August 9, 2011, OH – The impacts of road salt on groundwater will be explored in a National Ground Water Association Webinar on Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. ET.

An overview of highway deicing history and methodologies will precede the webinar’s discussion of the environmental fate of road salt. Previous research will be combined with empirical knowledge of MaineDOT to illustrate the agency’s experience regarding road salt impacts on surficial and bedrock aquifers.

Additionally, participants will learn how to distinguish road salt from other sources of salt and strategies to remediate salt-contaminated water supply wells.

The presenter is Joshua Katz of the Groundwater and Hazardous Waste Division of MaineDOT’s Environmental Office.
The Webinar is suited to regulators, anyone with wells located near roads treated with salt, environmental educators, and environmental lawyers.
