Water treatment plant upgrades producing clean water, but it’s not getting to homes
Ontario First Nation community must still boil water for safe consumption

Thunder Bay, Ont. – The Neskantaga First Nation, north of here, had a water treatment plant built in 1993, but is still under a boil-water advisory. It is the longest advisory in Canada and has lasted more than 30 years. Despite undergoing $30 million in federally funded upgrades since 2017, the plant produces clean water but its distribution system isn’t reaching local homes.
