Châteauguay, Que. – A boil-water advisory has been issued for the Montreal suburb following a technical matter at the Marchand drinking water production plant.

The advisory extends to other surrounding municipalities, including Mercier, Léry, Saint-Isidore, Saint-Urbain-Premier and Sainte-Martine.

Water should be boiled in the affected communities before it is consumed or used for teeth brushing, food preparation and making ice cubes.

Tap water, however, can be safely used for showering and washing clothes.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
